Greeks-Frats/Soro USEFUL or USELESS??

Greeks-Frats/Soro USEFUL or USELESS??

So...The other day i was having this very interesting conversation with a friend of mine about frats and sororities. It was some good dialogue so I thought I would share my feelings on this...controversial topic.

At the outset, let me start by saying I have a lot of friends who are in fraternities and sororities...a lot. I also have family who are members of frats and sororities.

I believe they are a great networking tool that you could utilize in life and that you could benefit from long term. However, when I look at the overall picture of these organizations I feel that most of them have lost track of their primary mission. Most...if not all of the Greek organizations of today has lost hindsight of the mission to advance the African American community, elevate the African American people and stay dedicated to community service, brotherhood, sisterhood and social justice.

Now, I have never been on campus at a University nor have I ever been apart of a frat, but from information gathered through my own research and from hearing personal testimony's, I believe it's fair to say that most of these frats and sororities on campuses around this Country party, party, party....I love to party, but as a social organizations with such rich history, well respected members of the past, and with all the issues happening in our communities...WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO ALWAYS SKIP AROUND IN CIRCLES AND PARTY!

If you are thinking about joining one of these clubs...and if you've ignored everything I said up until now...remember this...

DO NOT LET ANYONE DEHUMANIZE YOU OR DEMEAN YOU JUST SO YOU CAN BE WELL-LIKED OR ACCEPTED BY AN ORGANIZATION.

iNsidE the LOop

Big up's to the frats and sororities that bring issues to awareness and that are involved in the community.

  1. I like this post and I agree with everything u said! The morals and purposes of these sororities and fraternities have been lost but hopefully they'll be restored one day...

  2. From my experience, they do more harm than they help. Individuals; if they are not mentally strong enough and honest with themselves, loose themselves in this fake world. They loose valuable amount of time and energy redirecting themselves from their goals and potential. As for the frats, their usually treatment of women and especially the women with low self esteem and no direction is adisgusting. The act of making them or tricking them into performing sexual acts or degrading themselves for the frats benefits is totally disgusting and not of a man at all. As for the sororities, most of the things those women do can not be considered Godly or greater womanhood. The sharing of your body with every male "greek" on campus , or sleeping with any guy because he has some greek attire on is low class and shameful. I've seen good women turn into harlots and destroy their names.
Maybe it is because I value different things and I am not part of the "if it feels right do it" posse. I think it is a sad and unreasonable thing to get involved with , especially if you do not know yourself. The meaning has been lost and I bet the founders of these once great organizations are doing circles in the grave.
Don't get me wrong, I have much respect for those that still abide by those cardinal virtues of their organizations and carry themselves as upright women or men. The foolishness and coonery of the rest need to stop. Why will I go to college to dress in a dog collar , a thong and boots. Doesn't make sense and it is redirecting attention from Education.
