unexpected blessing

Ive been broke for like two weeks...and it seemed like things have been downhill for a while BUT unexpectedly I was given two late checks from my summer job which ended mid-August!!!....two. I didn't even know that I was getting anything but two!!!! i'm out of the red..now the question is how long will it be before i'm right back in the red? lol

O.k....I'm Back and FALL IS ON THE WAY!

I've been gone for a minute but I'm back. Summer sucked. I'm at Roosevelt University downtown chicago which is....iNsidE the LOop! ha ha

I'm so excited that fall is on it's way. I don't know...maybe it's just me..doesn't the Fall get you excited over the clothing lines and all the fashions that are going to be dropping?? I love it..I'm geeked. You'll catch me with a pea coat all day...Karmaloop is the way to go ladies and gentlemen.

I am a big Eminem fan. I’ve been a fan since I first witness the brand new premier of his first video "My Name Is" on Mtv. I was an instant fan. I think the thing that sets Eminem apart of all the other rappers and lyricist is the fact that he is so versatile in his rapping and his multi-rhyming skills...He is a genius when it comes to lyrics! Anyone who can freestyle and use: rocafella, mozzarella and helicopter propeller in a sentence is just incredible.

He doesn’t confine himself to the whole money, women, cars, drugs, guns category either. I feel like Eminem has been in a league of his own. Vibe did a great job telling the truth.

Financial Aid = Stress

Is it just me and the schools that I go to...or is the financial aid process in general? All I have to say is...SCHOOL SUCKS GIRAFFE BALLS!!

Every time I go to the financial Aid office to check the status of my aid, I always get the run around. "you need to turn in this", " have your parents sign this", "you didn't do this correctly"...It get's so overwhelming and stressful to say the least. I guess that's one of the million reasons why I hate school. The process, just to get in, is like trying to join some secret society....school sucks!

Insufficient Funds

I'm broke as hell!!! This keeps happening to me...Example - I check my chase debit account online and it would say something like I have $30...then I spend $20...I check back a day or two later, it says some b.s. like -$11.00!!! WTF!! So I go back online to check, just to find out I was charged for a magazine subscription that I have no clue how it got there. Then I find out that was a scam with this purchase I made at Bestbuy. All in All I now hate Bestbuy and Chase.

I tried calling the magazine company and they said I should be recieving a call within 5-10 business days.....DUMBASS!!!, 5-10 business days isn't going to solve my account being in the negatives!!

Sometimes I think I'll be better off without a debit card. It's crap like this that makes people go nuts and straight bizzare.....my job is just paying my bills...UM, VACATION???

Barber Fright

My barber has been cutting my hair wrong for two weeks now....two weeks! It's hard to let him know like....I don't know what to say or how to say it, but he keeps pushing my lining back which makes my forehead wider..which makes me look weird... I don't know, guess it's gonna take me a while to get over this symptom of barber fright.

I guess the messed up part is that we have good conversation. This guy knows my whole life and everything I deal with. I see him more like my psychiatrist and my doctor who just so happens to know how to cut hair for $15.

I guess we'll see what happens on Friday...

So...The other day i was having this very interesting conversation with a friend of mine about frats and sororities. It was some good dialogue so I thought I would share my feelings on this...controversial topic.

At the outset, let me start by saying I have a lot of friends who are in fraternities and sororities...a lot. I also have family who are members of frats and sororities.

I believe they are a great networking tool that you could utilize in life and that you could benefit from long term. However, when I look at the overall picture of these organizations I feel that most of them have lost track of their primary mission. Most...if not all of the Greek organizations of today has lost hindsight of the mission to advance the African American community, elevate the African American people and stay dedicated to community service, brotherhood, sisterhood and social justice.

Now, I have never been on campus at a University nor have I ever been apart of a frat, but from information gathered through my own research and from hearing personal testimony's, I believe it's fair to say that most of these frats and sororities on campuses around this Country party, party, party....I love to party, but as a social organizations with such rich history, well respected members of the past, and with all the issues happening in our communities...WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO ALWAYS SKIP AROUND IN CIRCLES AND PARTY!

If you are thinking about joining one of these clubs...and if you've ignored everything I said up until now...remember this...

DO NOT LET ANYONE DEHUMANIZE YOU OR DEMEAN YOU JUST SO YOU CAN BE WELL-LIKED OR ACCEPTED BY AN ORGANIZATION.

4th of July

If you know me...you already know how I truly feel about the 4th of July, but I'm not going to get into that because we all already know.

I must say...I am sick of the 4th!!! Don't get me wrong, the beautiful showcase of professional fireworks are great to sit back and watch!, but when you live in the hood and you can't open your windows because the air is smoked out and all you hear is a mixture of m80's, people yelling, and possible gun shots deep into the midnight...the 4th isn't on your top list of favorite holidays. Not to mention the next morning. I'm talking about the moment you walk outside and there are fire cracker wrappers eeeeeeverywhere...Come on people. The least you can do is pick up or sweep up all your shit when you get finished!

This year was the first 4th of July i can every remember not spending it in a backyard eating BBQ with family and having Al green or BB King playing in the background.

I spent my 4th bowling then I went to Hooters with some friends. How was yours?

Taste of Chicago Review

Don't get me wrong...I love to go to the taste. I love to see the people and I love to be around positive energy....HOWEVER...The Taste is so overrated. I mean, the food is alright but it's nothing special. This year I didn't go on the night the fireworks were displayed because I know it's another breed of people who like to go and make their presence known lol, but I did go the early afternoon of the 4th and it was o.k. Chicago weather sucks because it rain a little bit.

I feel like the Taste is more for out of towners and tourist than it is for actual Chicagoans. I don't know..maybe it's just me.

I don't know what's more of a let down...the fact that Kanye produced it or the fact that Drake must have liked what was being produced.. I did not enjoy it because I was anticipating something more..maybe with a love interest or something. Don't get me wrong..the women in the video are nice, but the video was a little tasteless. Sadly, I heard the tragic news like everyone else this past week. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop has passed away at age 50. I believe the saddest part regarding the death of Michael Jackson is the fact that for the last 15 years the media and news world were dehumanizing him and projecting the image of him negatively. They are soley the cause of the whole "Wacko Jacko" shit and now that he has left us, he is an icon, legend, king of pop, revolutionary to music...It's funny how the media can build you up...tear you down...then honor you when you die.

Michael Jackson single handedly made Mtv what it is today, revolutionized music videos and he was a leading voice when it comes to social causes and issues all around the globe. Songs like "They Don't Really Care About Us", "Black or White", "Earth Song", "Man in the Mirror", and "We are the World" have done so much to bring a cease to racism, classism, sexism, and much more. Michael Jackson was one of the greatest. Schamon!

Kanye Chicago Benefit Concert

First off, I'm mad. I found out about the concert last night while i was at work! I know Ye put on a great show. I got a chance to see him at the Glow in the Dark Tour and he is non stop on the stage. However, this was a stay in school benefit concert to award CPS (Chicago Public School)Students. I believe it was apart of the Kanye West Foundation held at the Chicago Theater.

Also here in Chicago and at the concert was America’s Next Top Model Monique Calhoun. She was looking good.

Chrisette Michele's debut album I AM was one of the best R&B albums of 2007, but it didnt give her much commercial success. I've been following Chrisette for a while..she's amazing! I really like soulful music and she delivers. I'm not even a big fan of Neyo..i mean..don't get me wrong he is very talented, but I like him more as a producer or a writer than an actual artist. He really gives Chrisette a push for this project. I think if you like neo-soul or R&B you'll definently love this album. Support good music! yeah...she's in the loop.

So i just got finish doing this phone interview for this job that i am trying to get with this Charter School....I HATE job interviews!!, but I think I did a good job. They said if they're intrested, they'll contact me in early/mid July.

Rihanna is the shit. period....She has single handedly influenced almost every girl to go for a shorter hairstyle...at least that's what I think. Her fashion sense (or her stylist) is incredible beyond words. Rumors has it that she's doing a song with the overnight rap success, Drake. Other rumors state that a song is not the only thing they're doing together. lol. I think it's a great look for Drake, especially since his buzz is growing by the minute. Chris Brown...wamp wamp..

Speaking of Drake..The guy has skills. Rapper/Singer/Actor and has the poetintial to be a very good rapper...not one of these clowns you see snapping and poppin for a club hit. I don't think he'll fit well with Lil Wayne's Young Money Label...maybe it's just me. I would rather see him with Kanye's label G.O.O.D Music...or Def Jam Records.
